Business Days Calculator (Exclude Weekends and Custom Holidays)
Contracts, SLAs, notice periods and shipping estimates are almost always written in business days, and everyone counts them slightly differently. This calculator makes the two ambiguous parts explicit: which days count as the weekend, and how many public holidays fall inside your specific range.
102 billable days at an eight-hour standard equals 816 working hours.
| Category | Days | Share of range |
|---|---|---|
| Working days | 102 | 68.9% |
| Weekend days | 42 | 28.4% |
| Public holidays | 4 | 2.7% |
| Total calendar days | 148 | 100% |
Weekend patterns are not universal
Saturday and Sunday is standard across the Americas, Europe and most of Asia. Several Gulf states run Friday and Saturday, and some countries — including India for many sectors — treat only Sunday as the weekend. Choosing the wrong pattern on a six-month project can shift the count by more than twenty days.
Inclusive versus exclusive counting
Legal notice periods usually exclude the start date and include the end date, while shipping estimates typically count from the next business day. This tool counts both endpoints inclusively. If your contract excludes the first day, subtract one working day from the result.
Planning around holiday clusters
Late December, Easter week, Golden Week in Japan and Eid periods across Muslim-majority countries all cluster holidays together and effectively remove a working week. When a delivery window crosses one of those clusters, add the holidays explicitly rather than assuming an average monthly figure.

People also ask
How many working days are in a year?
About 261 before holidays — 365 calendar days minus 104 weekend days. Deducting eight to twelve public holidays leaves roughly 249-253 in most Tier-1 countries.
Do business days include public holidays?
No. A business day is a day the relevant office is normally open, so both weekends and public holidays are excluded from the count.
How do I count business days for a delivery estimate?
Most carriers start counting from the next business day after dispatch, not the dispatch day itself. Subtract one from an inclusive count to match that convention.

Quick answers about the Business Working Days
What exactly does the Business Working Days work out?
Contracts, SLAs, notice periods and shipping estimates are almost always written in business days, and everyone counts them slightly differently. You enter start date, end date, weekend pattern and public holidays in range and the result panel updates straight away, so you can compare two or three versions of the same question in a few seconds.
What do I need before I start?
Only 4 fields: start date, end date, weekend pattern and public holidays in range. Nothing else is needed and nothing is stored.
How is it calculated — weekend patterns are not universal?
Saturday and Sunday is standard across the Americas, Europe and most of Asia. The same maths runs inside this page, so hand-checking the result on paper gives you the identical figure.
Why do two calculators give me different answers for business Working Days?
Legal notice periods usually exclude the start date and include the end date, while shipping estimates typically count from the next business day. Different sites pick different assumptions, so always check which method a calculator states before you trust the gap between two numbers.
What does the "Working days per month in a typical year" table on this page tell me?
It is the reference range this tool works against — 8 rows from "January" (31) up to "December" (31). Use it to sanity-check whether the number you just calculated sits where you expected it to. Before national public holidays are deducted.
Which weekend pattern should I pick?
The dropdown offers 4 choices — Saturday + Sunday, Friday + Saturday (Gulf), Sunday only and No weekend. Pick the one that matches your real situation rather than the one you would like to be true; weekend pattern usually moves the final figure more than any other single input, so it is worth running it twice with the option above and below your guess.
Do I have to press a button or reload the page to see the result?
No. Business Working Days runs completely inside your browser, so the moment you change a value the cards recalculate — there is no submit step, no page reload and no waiting for a server round trip. That also means it keeps working on a weak or intermittent mobile connection.
Is it free, and do you keep what I type?
It is free with no sign-up, no app install and no usage limit. Nothing you enter into Business Working Days leaves your device — the calculation is JavaScript running locally, so there is no upload of your figures to DrHint or anyone else.
Can I use it on a phone?
Yes — the layout stacks to a single column on small screens and the number fields open the numeric keypad on both Android and iOS. Many people bookmark this page or add it to their home screen and re-open it whenever the question comes up.
Anything to be careful about with the result?
About 261 before holidays — 365 calendar days minus 104 weekend days. Treat the output as a well-grounded estimate for planning, not as a professional, legal or medical decision on its own.
